In this outstanding book by Dr. John H. Binkley we are gently led by his words into the realm of the Spirit and some Godly wisdom that we may apply to our lives. Our author takes us down the road of life and explains why it is important to be a person of character, the Godly kind. Every area of your existence will change for the better when you stop, evaluate, and take the proper steps to line-up your character by God's rules.

Dr. Binkley utilizes the Word and gives us examples of Godly character that we should strive to attain, and explains why striving to live this way will make your life so much better. After each chapter he gives a summary, which is very helpful, and at the end of the book, Scripture references. One of the statements that struck me was, "Our character is based on our knowledge of God." Think about it? That statement alone makes you want to dig into God's Word. Surely this book will be a useful tool to any who wish to understand the spiritual truths that will help unlock God's will for their life and have a better understanding of God's ways. Another winner!

Achieving Authentic Wealth: Building Prosperity for the Right Reason by Jeff McLoud

It may say, "It's a Guy Thing" but the lesson contained within the covers of Achieving Authentic Wealth is one for men and women. I had several ah-ha moments while reading the lessons Jeff mcLoud outlines.

The premise of the book is that if we want the Lord to bless us with increase, then we need to show that we are worthy of that blessing FIRST. Achieving Authentic Wealth teaches that the Lord blesses people with prosperity to bless the lives of others. If we are good stewards of what we have, He will bless us with more.

This may seem like a very basic lesson for most Christians but the real question is whether you are living the precepts. Personally, I struggle with wanting to buy "things". I like pretty-shineys and it is hard to tell myself no sometimes. After reading Achieving Authentic Wealth, I am renewed in my conviction to put aside the natural man (woman in my case) and work on the basics of eliminating debt first then opening my heart to be led to share of my bounty with whomever the Lord sends me.

I was very impressed with Mr. McLoud's strong stance against churches who go into debt to have bigger and better things. I know of way too many churches who spend their money frivolously to impress other men. The saddest thing I have ever heard is of a church that had to stop meeting because the leader used up all the reserves to furnish his house and buy a fancy car. "How can I do twice as much with half the money" should be the mantra of all church groups. I do feel fortunate to know of church systems that ARE frugal and efficient and I can't help but applaud those institutions.

Obviously, atheists and agnostics will not be impressed with the theories laid out in Achieving Authentic Wealth but the precepts are priceless to everyone else.

I cannot find Achieving Authentic Wealth on Amazon.com but you can find it on the publisher's website at www.guythingpress.com.

Having grown up with a dad who did the best he could and failed, I read this book with both curiosity and skepticism. Was it going to be preachy and superficial? Was it going to be like the horde of self-help books pumped out every year, to be bought, half read and then gather dust in a book case?

Well, I was very pleasantly surprised. This book is exactly what the author says it is; an easily readable book for guys...on being a dad. Dr King got things right. First of all, his awareness that guys tend to want to read something quick, short and with an answer is dead on and he stays true to this throughout the book. To put it succinctly, this is the kind of book a man can keep in the bathroom and absorb a bit of wisdom every time he heeds the call of nature.

Each chapter does two things; First it highlights an elemental concept (the difference between being a friend to your child and being a father, for example), then it gives an example from real life that supports the initial concept. Messages are reiterated in different ways (much like football plays are practiced over and over until teams get them right) with varying examples to keep them fresh. There are two overall concepts streaming through the book. First, the changes needed to become a good and loving father are neither impossible nor necessarily drastic and second, it is never too late to make those changes.

Men struggling with the challenges of fatherhood will find this book both helpful and reassuring. Men whose 'dad' skills are up there will also benefit from this book because they can scan a section, look in the mirror and smile, knowing they're on the right track. I'm happy to add this to the Hartland Public Library collection.

What is it that a man really needs to be fulfilled?

&bull Acceptance?
&bull Success?
&bull A Mate?
&bull Money?
&bull Fame?
&bull Relationships?
&bull Love?

A true man finds peace and fulfillment in Christ. When man's relationship with Christ is real and vibrant all those other things that we need become the by products. John reflects this to us by his own example in life and in his relationship with his family.  I know John King personally, and every word written is this book is true.  He charts a path that every man who is looking for real peace and fulfillment should follow. That path is through Christ. "A Guy Thing" for true life!

I have just finished reading John King's It's a Guy Thing. This is probably one of the most insightful books I have had the pleasure to experience. Most books of this nature are, to be frank, boring and rather tedious but I found, to my delight that this book was anything but.

I found that most of what was said reflected a truth from my own life. This book had a profound effect on me both as a man and as a father. Strangely, I now find myself applying these principles both to my life and my family. I do this not out of duty, but moreover with a renewed purpose in my life founded in the love that I until now, had pretty much taken for granted.

Thank you John for putting into perspective what most of us feel. My life has a new meaning, based on both faith, and love.

John King targets and hits the key issues in the role of being a man.... A Christlike man.

Accepting responsibility for a man's decisions, honoring god, honoring your wife, honoring your parents and honoring the church are the foundation for being a man of God. John King communicates the essence of being a true man of God.  Not from theory, but from the practical experience of his life.

Wisdom is applied truth and John King brings to all of us the wisdom of god so that it is practical, applicable and memorable for all. Read and apply the principles of It's a Guy Thing,  you and those you love will be grateful for it.

When I think of Men's Ministry, I think of John King.  IMN and It's A Guy Thing have brought a relevant biblical perspective to an age-old issue.  I encourage every Pastor, Men's Director, Dad, Husband, or MAN to read It's A Guy Thing.  You will soon realize there is a ministry that is answering the questions you are asking.

One of the best books I've read in a very long time. It gave me a better understanding of my dad and now my husband . John has a true gift from God. This book should be mandatory reading in every high school across the United States and especially in every parenting class.

I recommend this book to young and old, of both sexes.

John King's book, It's A Guy Thing is a much a needed guide for men of all ages: single, married or married with children.

In this generation, when the cry is, "Where are the fathers? Where are the Godly men who do not abdicate their God-given calling?"  (Remember, God is a Father...a Husband.) He has entrusted us men with a High and Holy calling.

This book is written with wit, confrontation and Holy Spirit anointed common sense.

Like the song says, "Mommas don't let your babies to grow up to be cowgirls."  ha ha.  Really, let them grow up to be men of God.  Buy this book for your sons and encourage them to practice these principles and they will become successful, happy, and fulfilled men in order to effect this generation for God.
